Amtrak’s track from Chicago to St. Louis would seem an ideal place for a U.S. to adopt high-speed rail such as in Europe and Asia, where newcomer trains can competition along during 200 miles an hour. The widen in Illinois is a true shot opposite mostly prosaic terrain.
