Shoppers have criticised new Sainsbury’s wellness aisles after they noticed unhealthy food items.  

Bee Wilson, food author and author of First Bite: How We Learn to Eat, tweeted a print taken in her internal supermarket. 

“This is depressing. A new ‘wellness aisle’ in Sainsbury’s Cambridge. Contents: sweetened biscuits, protein bars, organic cola drinks, slimming shakes,” she wrote. “The stupidity of a food enlightenment all in one aisle.”

Food author and 2012 leader of The Great British Bake Off, John Whaite also tweeted: “This is INSANE.”

“Is it any consternation that children grow adult confused? The best ‘wellness’ aisle is a unfeeling bed in a garden or even pots on a windowsill,” another person commented. 

A Sainsbury’s spokesman told The Independent there had been a misunderstanding.

Paul Mill-Hicks, food blurb executive at Sainsbury’s, explained that a thought for a wellness aisles came from rising direct in a health market.

He said in a matter that “wellness and sports nourishment are areas that are apropos increasingly renouned with a customers.”

The firm announced it was going to start trialling “wellness hubs” to assistance business simply find products to capacitate a healthy lifestyle.
