Why Paul McCartney Was a Fair Isle Sweater Fan (And You Should Be, Too)


WHEN TIMOTHY GRINDLE was a teen in a mid-2000s, a latter-day Beatles fan stumbled on an picture of Paul McCartney downy in a Fair Isle sweater and sipping a crater of tea outdoors. Mr. Grindle, now a co-owner of Canoe Club wardrobe boutique in Boulder, Colo., remembers inwardly declaring, “I wish to live whatever lifestyle that is.” So taken was he with this mural of alfresco tea expenditure that he swayed his grandfather to lend him a Ralph Lauren Fair Isle sweater. “It was loud, though we desired it,” he said.
